Joseph M. Wright | Co-Founder – Matrax Inc.
Joseph M. Wright earned his Associates Degree in aviation maintenance technology from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Florida in 1992. Mr. Wright worked in contracting, organizations and engineering firms in; technical capacities, site support, customer service, sales and management before he founded Engineering Matting Systems (“EMS”) in 2006. At EMS, Mr. Wright designed and manufactured the original Rhino mat that was placed into service in 2007.
As COO and Director of R&D at Matrax, Wright has incorporated improvements into the original Rhino design which is currently marketed as Matrax. The mat geometry was improved to carry large vehicular loads, and at the same time lightweight and easy to install. Matrax is considered the benchmark by industry leaders as a fully integrated ground cover system for drivable ground protection by promoters and facility managers with over one (1) million square feet of product sold and in use worldwide. In addition to his R&D role at Matrax, Mr. Wright provides on-site field consultation and instruction for our clients and end-users. In 2012, Joe supervised and assisted field crews for large installations at LP Field in Nashville, TN, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ and Stevens Institute of Technology in New York. The events included; Madonna, Kenny Chesney, Bruce Springsteen, the “Run for Home Plate” and graduation ceremonies at Stevens.
Prior to founding Matrax, Joe gained extensive field experience at Mabey Bridge and Shore renting, installing and selling Dura-Base® (a large 8 x 14 plastic mat) matting along the entire Eastern seaboard of the United States. Primary clients included; power transmission companies, highline contractors, utility contractors and oil and gas companies.
David J. Buddemeyer | Co-Founder – Matrax Inc.
David Buddemeyer earned an MBA in Finance from Loyola University Maryland (formerly Loyola College) in 1991, complemented by a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Radford University earned in 1981. His career reflects over 30 years of field and management experience in contracting, engineering, rentals, finance and sales. Mr. Buddemeyer’s responsibilities at Matrax include; financial management and reporting, identifying and establishing relationships with strategic partners (manufacturing, distribution and financial institutions), sales, marketing and product development. David has spent considerable time in his career in the field in technical and project management capacities and has worked with construction companies, developers, engineering firms and government agencies.
Prior to founding Matrax, Mr. Buddemeyer held senior management positions with Hillis-Carnes Engineering, Mabey Bridge & Shore, Environmental Restoration & Management and Villandry Holdings. At Mabey Bridge & Shore, Inc. Buddemeyer directed all aspects of sales and rental operations for the $30 million engineered shoring and site access division (including Dura-Base® Mats) of The Mabey Group, a privately owned, British corporation. He led business development initiatives, contract negotiations, procurement of rental assets, and marketing. David expanded and developed multiple sales and service locations throughout the eastern United States and recruited, hired and trained both sales and operations personnel.
Nicole Andrews | Managing Director/Global Sales – Matrax Inc.
Nicole holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Salisbury University Perdue School of Business where she graduated cum laude. Nicole has been in the construction and commercial real estate industries for over a decade. Her career began in geotechnical & environmental engineering consulting in 2006. With over a decade of experience in subsurface conditions and soil properties, Nicole is uniquely qualified to consult and provide recommendations for any terrain or site access challenge.
Nicole leads the sales team for Matrax, both domestically and internationally, with an emphasis on turf protection site access solutions within the sports and entertainment vertical market specifically. Areas of responsibility include: analyzing and summarizing competitor trends, identifying and developing sales opportunities and strategies, training the sales team on technical product requirements and features, estimating and preparing quotations, managing inventory and rental fleet, being actively involved in trade shows and organizations on a national and international level in multiple vertical markets, coordinating the design and implementation of all marketing material, website management (with an emphasis on search engine optimization), and all social media activities. She is also directly responsible for the customization, implementation, and ongoing management of Matrax’s CRM system.
Nicole has served in leadership positions for several trade organizations throughout her career. She presently serves on the national Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) membership committee. She is also the founder and Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Turf Managers Association (MASTMA), officially re-incorporated in 2017. She also presently serves on the Stadium Managers Association (SMA) Women in Leadership (WIL) committee.
